Points and how they can affect you include:

• 12 points. The most serious traffic offenses will result in 12 points on your driver’s license as well as other charges. These include failing to stop after an accident that results in the injury or death of another; driving with a suspended license; using a fake driver’s license; driving a commercial vehicle without CDLs; committing assault by motor vehicle; driving under the influence; committing a felony involving the use of a vehicle; attempting to elude police; and text messaging or other use of a cell phone, resulting in an accident that results in serious injury or death.
• 8 points. Traffic offensives that are assessed eight points include failing to stop at an accident resulting in property damage.
• 6 points. If you’re caught reckless driving, expect to receive six points.
• 5 points. Violations that result in five-point assessments include speeding by 30 miles per hour over a speed limit or more; failing to report an accident; driving without insurance; and aggressive driving.
• 3 points. More serious traffic offenses are assessed 3 points. They include failing to stop for a school bus and any traffic offense that results in an accident.
• 2 points. Minor traffic violations are assessed 2 points. They include following too closely; speeding above the speed limit by 10 miles per hour or more; passing a police officer or motor vehicle; and failing to stop for a red light.

Note: Receiving eight to 11 points could result in the suspension of a driver’s license, while 12 or more points could lead to revocation.
